PRISON: 3/2/02

Speaker Laura Devlin will lead a discussion about the issues raised in the films We Are Not Who You Think We Are and 900 Women. Laura is Executive director of Tapestry, a program at the Brattleboro Retreat which works to keep young women out of prison. Robert Appel, Executive Director of the Vermont Commission on Human Rights will also be present to inform about pending Vermont legislation addressing sexual misconduct in Vermont's prisons.

ELDERS: 3/3/02

Pamela Mayer will lead a discussion on the subject of creative ageing. Pam is a Jungian scholar and therapist, known to many in the Brattleboro area for her work with Healing Tools, the Manitou Project and the Hospice training program. She has been focusing attention in recent years on healing dimensions in ageing and issues around dying.

ASIAN: 3/9/02

Kathy Thielen will speak about her experience as a child brought to the US but born in Vietnam, and as a woman returning to her country of origin.

ARTS: 3/10/02

Filmmaker Rachel Clift and some of the artists portrayed will be present to discuss the making of the film Take It From Me, and their art.

HEALTH: 3/16/02

Filmmakers Lisa Merton and Alan Dater will be premiering their short film on the Healing Legacies, about the creation of an art show b y women who are breast cancer survivors. Lisa and Alan of Marlboro, VT are prize-winning producers of such recent films as Home to Tibet, and In Claire's Classroom. Brochures of health resources will be available in the lobby.

MIDDLE EAST: 3/17/02

Sandra Basgall who taught at S.I.T. for 10 years will facilitate a panel discussion of the issues brought forward in the films. Sandra is a consultant in international development and is working on a book about grassroots theater for social change in Bangladesh. Included on the panel is Kathryn Casa editor of the Brattleboro Reformer, who has years of experience in Islamic Culture.
