The Festival

This eleventh Festival is slated for March 1- 17, 2002. This year's films explore a wide range of themes including artists and their vision, cultural identity, sexual politics, breast cancer survival, Islamic women, and much more. These contemporary works showcase the diversity of women's lives around the world and their struggle for rights and dignity.

Everyone is welcome to attend. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for youths and seniors. Festival passes of five shows for $30 will be available at local bookstores starting mid- February, during Gallery Walk at the River Garden, and at the door. You can pick up a program at your local bookstore, or call the Hooker-Dunham Theater and Gallery at (802) 254 -9276. Questions may be emailed to wff@sover.net. All proceeds benefit the Women's Crisis Center of Windham County.

Opening night

The gala opening of the festival will be held Friday, March 1 with the Gallery Walk opening of "Visions and Voices" in the Hooker-Dunham Theater & Gallery.

Performance artist Annie Hickman will enact her wonderful "street theater" piece, about self and transformation, at the River Garden next door between 5 and 7p.m. Annie Hickman has performed nationally and internationally from Vermont to China. She has created sculptural costumes for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Jim Hensen's Sesame Street Live and a number of off-Broadway productions. Come see her transform herself into unusual creatures before your eyes. All three of these events are free of charge. Donations are welcome. All proceeds go to the Women's Crisis Center.

Women from the greater-Brattleboro community will perform with music, dance, and spoken pieces from 6 to 8 PM in the Hooker Dunham Theater, followed by the festival's opening film, "The Gleaners and I" at 8:10. The show of visual arts will be up for the entire month of March.
