This Image Hurts Your Image...Taking control
of the media -- March 7th, 6:30pm
Media messages are bombarding us, trying to dictated what we buy, how
we
dress, how we eat, even trying to influence how we feel. Grassroots
organizations are empowering people to take control. Through education,
stereotypes can be questioned, and opportunities presented to challenge
the
social climate promoted by the mega media giants. Moderated by Ruthie
Ristich, an advocate for taking control through education and action,
the
panel of local teenage women will respond to exploitive marketing and
finding their own media voice to bring about social change.
Fire Organ Demonstation -- March 12th, 6:00pm
- Court yard of the Hooker Dunham
As a center piece in the film "Nothing Like Dreaming," a fire
organ was
built by Frenchman, Michel Moglia. "The fire organ is an experimental
musical instrument made of steel pipes through which blasts of flame
travel, producing haunting and mesmerizing sounds. Visually and
acoustically, it expands the audience's ideas about music and pushed the
limits of visual art." Before the sneak preview of this film, the
films
production designer, Antionette Jacobson, will perform on a smaller version
of a fire organ that she has constructed.
Director-March 12th, 6:15pm
Director Nora Jacobson will be at the festival to talk about her film,
Nothing
Like Dreaming (Sneak Preview)
Through Their Eyes-March 19th, 8:15pm
It is the first challenge of a filmmaker to settle on "the idea"
that she
is going to bring to life on the screen. The panel will give an inside
view of how a concept becomes irresistible and yields the passion of a
filmmaker to bring it alive through film. Editor Kate Purde will moderate
the panel and will be joined by filmmakers Judith Katz (What
I Want My Words To Do To You) , Janet Goldwater (Maggie
Growls), Anita Doren (Not
A Fish Story), and Julie Akeret (Tomboys)
Liz Miller (Novela,
Novela).
Wise Women-March 21st, 1:00pm
We live in a vibrant community of women who either consciously or
unconsciously have been "adding life to their years," rather
than just
years to their lives. By maintaining a lifelong passion reflected in their
creative output, initiatives for social change and their strong voices
in
our community, these women are positively influencing society. Moderator
Claire Oglesby and the panelists will speak about their particular journeys
to inspire and impact their community.
